Jason's Schedule

District 23 Map

Jason Brown
Candidate for Oregon State Representative
House District 23

I am running for office to make a positive difference for the people of this district and all Oregonians. I believe that if we invest in people and solve problems rationally, our communities can thrive.

Investing in people means keeping our communities safe, building a healthy local economy, making health care affordable for everyone, improving land-use planning, and providing high quality public education. All of these contribute to a vibrant economy and improve everyone's quality of life.

As an example, we can have vocational training, apprenticeships and school-to-work partnerships in small towns across Oregon. I am currently working on such a project in Willamina-Sheridan. These don’t need to be expensive programs, but partnerships where people can learn skills needed by local businesses. Business owners, workers and entire communities can be revitalized.

Solving problems rationally means looking beyond standard left-wing and right-wing approaches. My broad experience and ability to find fair solutions to complex problems have made me effective as a consensus builder and local leader. People from across party lines have encouraged me to run because they are impressed with how I bring people together to find common ground and solve tough problems.

I will work for common sense solutions to benefit everyone: making health care more affordable, making our communities safer, restoring quality public education, building a healthy economy with strong local businesses, securing our rights and freedoms, and protecting our common resources and quality of life.

I believe we can rekindle the pioneer spirit and innovation that made Oregon a national leader in decades past. Please join me to make a difference.

Occupation:
Computer Professional, Small Farmer, Entrepreneur.

Occupational Background:
I have worked in a wide range of occupations, which allows me to relate easily with people from most walks of life. Since starting work as a dishwasher at the age of fourteen, I have worked in shipping yards and restaurants, sales, real estate, construction, assembly lines, technical support, computer R&D and management. I currently operate a 30-acre hay farm with my wife outside of Dallas, in addition to my employment in the computer field.

June is always a busy month. Jason loads hay for his customers. The farm produces about 70 tons of grass hay annually, which goes to feed horses, cattle, sheep, goats and llamas in the mid-Willamette Valley.

Community involvement:
I am currently working on a project to bring vocational training and business support services to Willamina-Sheridan. I campaigned actively in support of Measure 49 as an important first step in reforming our state land-use planning system. Over the years I have served on church boards and committees. I have helped organize various community events including concerts, fairs, parades and forums. I have attended meetings and hearings of various governmental bodies, from the state to the local level. I have helped raise funds for various non-profit causes.

Jason Brown and his wife, Lisanne Pearcy, live on a 30-acre farm outside of Dallas, Oregon, with their horse and three cats. The quality of life in rural Oregon is an issue Jason cares deeply about.

Family:
Family is very important to me. While my wife and I were not blessed with children, we have close relationships with our parents, siblings, nephew and niece who live in the Willamette Valley. I see firsthand the benefits of good parenting and the need for quality education for Oregon's children. If I had children at home, I would not have the time and energy I do to dedicate to this campaign and to serve in public office.

Educational Background:
B.A., The Evergreen State College, Olympia, WA, 1984
Graduate studies in Research Psychology at Washington University, Bellingham, WA (1992-94)
